original writings

A sampling of things written by myself. Come back, as I add more!

I enjoy occasionally writing short essays that reflect on life, technology and design. I also am working to do more creative writing —poetry, short stories.

Here are a few of my favorites. If you’d like to read more than what is linked below, follow me on Medium to get updates and see my other posts.

  • Maximalist UI Design is Coming!

#cluttercore is coming to UI design and I, for one, and so excited. Read about it from me first, haha. ;-D

  • Digital Inheritance Fallacy

A reflection on aging, the beautiful obsolescence of old tech, digital content hoarding, and letting go.

  • Can Closed Captions UX be Better?

I love using captions to watch my streaming shows but I do not love the user experience of those text boxes. We can do better, folks.

  • AI Design is Kinda BASIC

I look forward to moving beyond the command line, agentic interfaces of AI today, and to a world that explodes in form, function and color.

  • Going Up vs. Growing Up

Linearity (in career, family, life) is a fallacy imo and so this is a reflection—a yearning for a new metaphor to encapsulate the success of growing into the best version of ourselves.

  • Weathering & Sheltering

When I catch myself thrashing in a thunderstorm of pity or stress, I keep returning to a simple question: how can I create shelter from the rain?

  • It’s Hard, and That’s the Point.

This is an essay about resiliency and doing hard things, told in the context of 3 areas of my own life: learning to code again, pregnancy, and building connections with others.

  • The Practice of Reframing

I like to do a “Reframing” Checkup with myself, every so often. I reflect upon the practice in this short essay.
